Children’s Department Fall Highlights
Art Aces Program with Linda Fisher
The Children’s Department gets ready for an artful season this month by welcoming back Linda Fisher as library assistant. Her artwork is already brightening our bulletin boards and entryways. A talented fine artist, Linda’s fall lineup of Art Aces program for grades 1 through 5 will include a lesson in making Egyptian crowns and armbands, a mummy wrap race, and a slide show captured during her honeymoon trip to Egypt in 2008.
Teen Art Competition
High school and middle school students will once again enter the Teen Art Competition during Teen Read Week, October 17-23. This Friends-sponsored event has grown over the past few years, and we now honor media categories as diverse as photography, illustration, and multimedia sculpture. Look for teen artwork on display in the library during the last couple weeks of October.
LEGO Club
Librarian Martha Swanson is starting a LEGO club. Nine young enthusiasts showed up at our first meeting on September 7th, and they constructed various robots and weapon craft. Their work will be displayed in the children’s section during the week, and then dismantled to be recycled into new robotic creations at the next LEGO session.
Walk With Pets
October is a special month for pets and their people. On Saturday the 19th, we welcome the SEV Humane Society for an adoption event in our parking lot. As Halloween draws near, we’re inviting children to walk with their pets in a costume parade, with prizes awarded by the Friends.
Story Times
Story times are already packed and popular. Today I hosted around 20 children and their grownups during my Shake It Up! exercise and music program. We threw beanbags, played follow-the-leader train cars, did yoga stretches, played with parachutes, and more, all using equipment provided by Friends of the Library.
We’ve already started hearing how much people appreciate our programs, but we’d like you to hear it too. Feel free at any time to visit one of our programs and get a glimpse of how your dedication and generosity pay off.
Thanks to all members of Friends of the Library!
