Reconstituting the Non-profit Board
A Lecture by Prof. William Andrews, Stetson University
September 20, 2011, at 5h30pm
Does the recent gridlock and rancor of the US Congress remind you of the dynamics of your non-profit board? Do you wonder whether you need a new chairperson or just new board members? How do you go about replacing unfit board members? If you are asking questions like these, then you need to hear Prof. Andrews' session on 'Reconstituting the Non-profit Board', an exploration of strategies for breaking gridlock and getting it right.
Following the success of our 'Accord on the Board' lecture on April 20th, we are pleased to announce the return of Prof. Andrews on Wednesday, September 20th at 5:30pm for another discussion on how to improve, reconcile and reconstitute your non-profit board.
Prof. William Andrews, an associate professor of management at Stetson University, will share insights from his 17+ years of non-profit board governance.
The format will include a lecture followed by group work sessions where participants can describe their issues to their peers and work toward a principled decision.
This event is sponsored by the Friends of the New Smyrna Beach Library,is open to the public and free of charge.
Author Event with Wayne Pacelle
President and CEO of the Humane Society of the U.S.
October 17, 2011, at 7:00pm
In 2008, The Los Angeles Times wrote of Wayne Pacelle, "The head of the U.S. Humane Society has retooled the organization from a mild mannered protector of dogs and cats into an aggressive group flexing its muscle on behalf of all animals." Pacelle has proactively sought reforms in state laws, engaging the electorate and winning ballot initiatives that outlawed certain factory farming procedures, bear baiting, cockfighting and other inhumane practices.
Pacelle's best-selling book, "The Bond' "is an important investigation into all the ways we can repair our broken bond with the animal kingdom and a thrilling chronicle of one man's extraordinary contribution to that effort. A landmark work, The Bond is the passionate, insightful, and comprehensive examination of our special connection to all creatures, written by one of America's most important champions of animal welfare. Pacelle unveils the deep links of the human -animal bond, as well as the conflicting impulses that have led us to betray this bond through widespread and systemic cruelty to animals."
A book signing will follow the event and books will be available for purchase. Save the date! You will not want to miss this exceptional opportunity.
"If the animals knew about this book, they would, without doubt, confer on Wayne Pacelle, their highest honor."
