Dottie Kleiser: Over 6,000 Hours of Volunteer Service
This year, as we prepare for our annual community outreach asking for membership, donations and some of your volunteer time, our warm thanks go out to all the good people who have helped us make our library the great library that it is number one in the hearts and minds of our community.
We want to take a moment to focus on a volunteer who has made a real difference, someone who has been with the library as a staff member and then as a dedicated volunteer, someone who has over 6,000 hours of service with the library! Dottie Kleiber, petite in stature but big in energy and enthusiasm, has been a volunteer at the library since the 1990's, and a long-standing member of the board of Friends of the Library.
Dottie, who wears multiple hats at the library, is perhaps best known for her management of the used book store and used book sales, an activity that began following the retirement of Muriel Rosa seven years ago. Knowing that it was truly too big a job for a single person, Dottie organized a group of volunteers that reviewed, cleaned, priced and maintained the book sale tireless and routine work that they continue to do week after week. Today, Dottie is assisted by a team of volunteers, used book sale specialists, including Adele Bitowft, Arlene Borger, Betty Graher, Joan Radula, and Romany Wilkinson.

In the words of Albert Schweitzer, ''I don't know what your destiny will be, but one thing I know: the only ones among you who will be really happy are those who have sought and found how to serve.'' To those who know Dottie and have worked with her over the years, it is clear that she is one of those who have sought and found how to serve. Dottie, for your years of dedication and past service, and for all you continue to do, we are grateful!
In the Words of her Colleagues
Dottie doesn't need to go to Planet Fitness or the 'Y' for weight lifting exercise, because she regularly picks up the Friends coin bag for a deposit, and that can be a real workout. Dottie does a wonderful job with the book sale and has made a significant contribution to this library. Paula Zerillo
One of Dottie's tasks as a staff member was to select titles for the book van deliveries. She kept a list of her home delivery patrons and the titles they had already read. She was great at matching reading material for these special patrons. She had a special cart with wire baskets and was always loading up books for her patrons. Susan Howes
Dottie is the unsung heroine of the Children's Department. For over a decade, she's been responsible for physically processing labeling, stamping, and taping most of the books that arrive in our department. Dottie has an eagle eye for children's donations. Before she adds items to the booksale, she knows both popular items and the "bald spots" of the children's collection, so she will offer these items to our department. Mimi Hall
Dottie was volunteering in the children's section for me before the move to the highway, when my assistant, Bobbie, became very ill. I don't know what I would have done without Dottie's organizational skills and energy. I'll be eternally grateful to her for that. Joyce Howie
