You're Reading What?

I think you can know a lot about someone from their books - Jeffrey Eugenides

Reading List from Staff and Friends

It is often said that “man is known by the company he keeps.” In a recent interview with author Jeffrey Eugenides, Goodreads notes that his latest novel opens with a description of a character’s bookshelves and asks, “Do you believe that you can know a person by what they read?” Here’s what he says.

I think you can know a lot about someone from their books, and I’ve certainly done that before on my first and early dates with people. Seeing the wrong books can spell disaster. …/… It’s probably not fair, but compared to how someone looks or is dressed, I think books are a better measure of the person.

We thought it would be interesting to take a look at the company we keep as readers – those books on our coffee tables, our night stands, our desks or just recently uploaded on our Kindles and Nooks. We thought we would start by asking the staff of our library as well as the board members of Friends of the Library what they are reading. And here it is – a great December 2011 reading list!

Watch for our end of year list when staff and friends share their ‘Top Picks of 2011′.
